Barnsley Interchange opened for use at 0800 on the 20 May 2007. Following a launch event on the 19 May.

The completed interchange has access to:
- drop off facilities on Interchange Way (railway side)
- 74 standard parking spaces for rail users
- 6 disabled parking spaces for rail users
- 2 'parent and child' parking spaces for rail users - all on Interchange Way
The new Barnsley Interchange also has:
- full accessibility for all users including those with mobility, hearing and visual impairments
- 3 lifts, 2 esculators and ramps
- a footbridge connecting the concourse of the interchange with the rail station
- raised kerbs at bus stop bays to help people get on and off the buses more easily and safetly.
