Quality Corridors
We are introducing Quality Bus Corridors to make bus travel better for everyone by offering bus users better buses and bus stops, as well as making changes to help buses run on time and reduce journey times.
This is being undertaken jointly with the bus operators, the Police and the councils.
You will be able to recognise these by new low floor buses, low steps onto the buses, better bus stops and shelters and measures such as bus lanes to speed buses along. Once completed these are known publicly as Smart Routes.
Recent Smart Routes have been launched in the following areas:
- Sheffield S10 Smart Route
- North Sheffield/Sheaf Valley Smart Route
- Rotherham Maltby Smart Route
- A638 Doncaster Smart Route.
There are many new Smart Routes being planned in other parts of South Yorkshire. Find out more by visiting the projects section.
Travel Plans
A travel plan is a package of measures produced by employers to encourage their staff to use alternatives to single occupancy car use, whilst also promoting sustainable travel within an organisation.

A Bus Strategy for South Yorkshire
The Bus Strategy forms an integral part of the South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan and sets out a strategy for the development of an integrated transport system to become the travel choice for all by:
- meeting the needs of the people and businesses of South Yorkshire
- being affordable, accessible, reliable, safe, well publicised and easily understood.
All this is explained in the Bus Strategy, which you can read by downloading individual chapters.
