Work to extend Middlewood Park and Ride site will start next week (Monday 4 June).
An additional 150 parking spaces are being added by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) to meet the demands of passengers already using the site and also encourage more to park and ride into the city centre.
The north Sheffield facility offers customers an attractive, safe environment to leave their vehicles. It is perfectly located for drivers approaching Sheffield from the west and the north west and it gives passengers a hassle free journey into the city centre through Hillsborough and Shalesmoor.
Currently the park and ride site provides parking for 200 cars, including spaces for disabled users and cycle stands.
It is manned by Customer Service Officers between 0630 and 1930 and monitored 24 hours a day by CCTV cameras. It has a barrier controlled entrance and has been awarded Park Safe standard.
Roy Wicks, Director General of SYPTE said: “We are always looking at ways to improve our park and ride sites for our customers and I am delighted that we are able to extend this popular facility.
“Park and ride sites are a convenient and easy way to travel into the city centre and I hope by extending Middlewood more people will take the opportunity to travel hassle free into the city centre. Our aim is to encourage more people out of their cars and onto public transport and it is only by providing high quality facilities such as Middlewood Park and Ride that we can achieve this.”
Middlewood Park and Ride site is open between 0630 to 1930 Monday to Saturday and it will be open throughout the construction period.
The work is expected to be completed in autumn.
There are five park and ride sites in Sheffield, which offer over 1,180 parking spaces. Halfway, Middlewood Road, Nunnery and Malin Bridge are linked to tram stops and Meadowhall Interchange Park and Ride is linked to buses, trams and trains.
