Swinton Interchange Wins National Safety Award

Swinton Interchange is being presented with a national award on Thursday 11 October in recognition of its top class safety, security, station design and management.

The interchange will receive the award under the Secure Stations Scheme, which is managed by the Department for Transport (DfT) in partnership with the British Transport Police (BTP) and crime prevention charity Crime Concern.

To gain the award Swinton Interchange has been assessed in four separate ways including: the reality of crime, passenger perceptions, the physical ways of the station and station management.

It has also shown good systems for managing and monitoring safety procedures as well as minimising and dealing with crime and disorder issues.

David Young, Head of Transport Integration at South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), said he was delighted to receive the award on behalf of all the staff and passengers.

He said: “This is great news for Swinton and we are honoured to receive this award.  The Secure Station Scheme reinforces the fact that safety and security for our staff and passengers are our top priorities. We have listened to the views of passengers over the years and are very committed to providing a safe environment to access public transport."

Swinton Interchange has also been praised for good station design and maintenance and safety features such as CCTV systems, fully qualified Customer Service Officers and good levels of lighting and passenger information.
