South Yorkshire’s Transport Organisations Short Listed for National Award

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority and Executive (SYPTA/E) are delighted to announce they have been short listed for two national awards at the prestigious UK Bus Awards.

The Authority and Executive, who are responsible for driving forward public transport across the county, have been nominated for the Transport Authority of the Year Award.  One of their newest interchanges - Frenchgate in Doncaster - has been short listed in the Infrastructure category.

The UK Bus Awards celebrates the achievements of the transport industry over the past 12 months and the winners will be announced on 7 November 2007.

Roy Wicks, Director General of SYPTE, said: “We are delighted to hear the news.  It is testament to just how hard the Transport Authority and Executive work, to promote and enhance public transport across the county.”

Echoing these comments, Councillor Mick Jameson, Chair of SYPTA, said: “Over the last year we have developed and delivered a number of cutting edge projects that have improved the quality, reliability and image of public transport in the region.  We really are putting South Yorkshire on the national map.”

Over the last year SYPTA/E has won a number of awards including Passenger Transport Authority of the Year at the National Transport Awards.
