South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) is delighted to announce that it has been short-listed for two prestigious National Transport Awards.
It has been named as a contender in the Joe Clarke Passenger Transport Authority of the Year and Improvements to Bus Services categories.
The awards showcase best practice in all fields of transport and are recognised as the most prestigious in the industry. Last year SYPTE won the Joe Clarke Passenger Transport Authority of the Year category.
This year’s entries for the awards covered:
• SYPTE’s award-winning new interchange in Barnsley
• The introduction of the popular FreeBee bus service in Sheffield
• Improvements to Doncaster’s rail station, including new lifts and better access
• The launch in North Sheffield of the first Statutory Quality Partnership Scheme in England and Wales
• The Sheffield Voluntary Partnership Agreement between SYPTE, First Group and Sheffield City Council
• Growing patronage on Sheffield’s Supertram network and local rail services
• The South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Academy which is a learning partnership between SYPTE and Doncaster College
• The pioneering Carbon Quids campaign run in September 2007 as part of European Mobility Week
David Brown, Director General of SYPTE, said: “I am delighted we have been short-listed for these awards which recognise the innovative and industry-leading work we do to encourage greater use of public transport in South Yorkshire.
“We are keeping our fingers crossed that the judges choose us when the results our announced at the awards ceremony on 15 July.”
