SYPTE Helps Local Businesses Reduce Carbon Footprint

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) is holding a free business breakfast seminar on Monday (7 April) to help local businesses and their staff save money and at the same time reduce their carbon footprint.

The greentravel2work seminar is being held at the Holiday Inn Royal Victoria Hotel in Sheffield and over 40 businesses from across the county are set to attend.

On the day speakers will explain to employers how they and their employees can cut their annual bus travel costs by 30 per cent if they switch to greener methods of travel.

The seminar will also launch a new TaxMaster product, from TravelMaster, which will offer organisations a multi-operator bus ticket for their employees.

Businesses can also benefit by saving up to 12.8 per cent on their National Insurance contributions. Adding to staff benefits which will encourage staff retention and the corporate image of businesses will be enhanced if they become an employer of choice.

The greentravel2work seminar has been organised by p&mm, in conjunction with SYPTE and local bus operators, to support the Government’s Green Travel Plan.   It aims to encourage commuters to use local buses instead of cars to travel to and from work and gives employers and staff financial incentives to do so.

David Brown, Director General of SYPTE, said:  “With climate change so high on the agenda these days it is important for businesses to look at their carbon footprint and what impacts their actions have on the environment.

“The Government’s Green Travel Plan is a great idea and supports everything we are doing across South Yorkshire to encourage people to use public transport.

“This seminar will help business leaders understand how they can benefit their companies and their employees by adopting green travel plans.

The seminar is just one of the ways SYPTE is working in partnership with local bus operators and businesses to help people think about changing their travelling habits to ‘greener modes of travel’ such as public transport, walking, cycling and car sharing.

If any local business would like to find out more about the services SYPTE has to offer call 0114  221 1221 for a free consultation.
