Replacement bus services to Darton High School have been arranged by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) to ensure school children can travel to school by bus.
The services have been introduced following discussions with local bus service operators and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. They will replace the two bus services recently withdrawn by Tates Travel.
The new services will ensure school children living at Mapplewell and Staincross are able to get to and from school using public transport.
• Service 490, which is currently run by Stagecoach between Mapplewell, Four Lane Ends and Darton High via Woolley Colliery will be diverted to replace the 492 from Monday 19 May. The 490 will now start from Shaw Lane and operate via Staincross Common, Sackup Lane, Bloomhouse Lane, Woolley Colliery Village and Churchfield Lane to school.
• Service 471, which ran in the afternoon only from Darton High to Mapplewell, New Lodge and Barnsley, has been partially replaced by an Arriva Yorkshire service 471 which began operating on Monday 12 May. Whilst this service is unable to operate via New Road like the former Tates service, it will link the main areas between Darton High and Mapplewell. Arriva is using a double deck vehicle on this service and the journey will replace both the 471 and the diverted 490.
David Young, Head of Transport Integration at SYPTE, said: “When the services were withdrawn in April many children living in Mapplewell and Staincross were affected. We are therefore delighted to be able to offer these children a replacement bus service.
"We have worked with our partners to ensure a replacement service is available and I delighted it means school children in this area will be able to continue to use public transport.”
