A popular Sheffield bus service, which acts as a lifeline to communities in the north of the city, will carry its half millionth passenger this Thursday 6 September.
The P1/P2 Crosslink bus service runs from Southey Green to Parson Cross and links people with vital services such as the Northern General Hospital, medical centres, post offices and local shops.
It also links people with a number of job opportunities and for some people it is their only means of accessing key services.
Amongst the places the service calls at are Colley Sports Centre, Chaucer Comprehensive School, Fox Hill, Wadsley Bridge, Shirecliffe, Norwood, Northern General Hospital, Firth Park shopping area and Longley.
It runs hourly in each direction, Monday to Saturday, from 0700 to 1900, and is operated by Sheffield Community Transport. It is part funded by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE).
Speaking about the service Pam Horner, External Relations Manager from SYPTE, said: “This is a valuable community service designed to provide local links to local facilities. The fact that half a million people have benefited from it just shows how valuable it is. Thank you to everyone who regularly uses it."
Ian Jenkinson, from Sheffield Community Transport, said: "We have been proud to provide the Crosslink service since it started in 2002 as we know just how important this service is to local people. We are dedicated to running this service reliably and ultimately we hope to be able to maintain it without support from public funds."
