Public Contribute to Revised Proposals to Improve Travel Through Parkgate

The views of local residents, traders and commuters have helped shape proposals to improve traffic flow along the A633 Broad Street in Parkgate, close to the Taylor’s Lane Roundabout.

The propositions are part of the Rotherham to Dearne Quality Bus Corridor, developed by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in partnership with South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and local bus operators.

Earlier this year a public consultation took place in Parkgate. This provided members of the public with the opportunity to comment on proposals to improve travel through the busy shopping area.

After carefully reviewing the comments and feedback received from the public, the Council and the Transport Executive have decided to change some of their original proposals. The amendments will further benefit local residents and traders, as well as the large number of road users – bus passengers, cyclists and drivers – who travel through the area.

The plans still include widening Broad Street where it exits from Taylor’s Lane Roundabout. This will reduce congestion and delays at this busy junction by lengthening the distance where the two lanes of traffic can merge.

They also include changes to the junctions where Greasbrough Road and Bear Tree Street meet Broad Street. These changes will help traffic flow through the area, particularly along Broad Street, and will also allow the Council to introduce more parking spaces - particularly in front of the shops on Rawmarsh Hill.

Over 230 people replied to the earlier consultation. The feedback was very helpful and has contributed to these revisions, intended to improve traffic flow on Taylor’s Lane Roundabout and along Broad Street.

To allow these changes to take place Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) will need to be introduced.  These TROs will be advertised on posters along the streets concerned and in the local press.
