A new improved Park & Ride bus service will begin operating from Tesco in Abbeydale Road, Sheffield from Monday, 28 January 2008.
Service 505 already runs from Abbeydale Road to Sheffield University and serves the Royal Hallamshire and Sheffield Children’s Hospital on the way.
Now the service will run seven additional trips a day and these will extend to the Arundel Gate mini-Interchange in the city centre in off-peak hours.
The service is operated by TM Travel and has been delivered through partnership working involving South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), The University of Sheffield, The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Sheffield Galleries & Museums Trust and Sheffield City Council. There will be 18 bus services a day running every half hour in peak times and hourly for the rest of the day.
There are 202 free car parking spaces available at Tesco especially for Park & Ride users and the cost of the bus service is only £2.50 per day, £8.50 per week (five days consecutive use) or £9.50 for a 10 day ticket booklet. Look out for TM Travel promotional introductory offers.
The park and ride site is also served by bus service No. 85 which is operated by First and provides and half hourly link into city via Ecclesall Road (hourly at evenings and weekends).
Improving Park & Ride services is one of SYPTE’s key strategies to offer the people of South Yorkshire better travel choices.
Roy Wicks, Director General of SYPTE, said: "Park & Ride sites are a convenient and easy way to travel and I hope by improving the bus service more people will take the opportunity to travel hassle free to important locations like the hospitals and the university.
"Our aim is to encourage more people out of their cars and onto public transport and it is by providing attractive and value for money services that we can achieve this. As they say, "Every little helps …!"
