The Transport Executive has funded a direct commuter bus service from Wombwell to Sheffield to ensure residents can access vital work opportunities.
The 71 service will be introduced from Monday 31 July and will serve Hemingfield, Jump, Hoyland, Elsecar, Chapeltown and the Northern General Hospital on its way to Sheffield Interchange.
Service 71 will run on Monday to Fridays and will leave Wombwell at 0725 and return from Sheffield Interchange at 1730 to fit in with office working hours.
Pam Horner MBE, External Relations Manager at the Transport Executive explains the service has been introduced to replace service 72 which was withdrawn in April by Stagecoach for commercial reasons.
She said: "When it was taken off the Transport Executive carried out a survey asking residents what links they needed most. The feedback we received was that many people needed a service which would allow them to get to and from work in Sheffield.
"So, as a result of this, the Transport Executive decided to fund service 71 on a three month trial basis. The service will be monitored and its success will determine its long term future."
Timetables are available from all Transport Executive Information Centres or alternatively passengers can log onto the journey planner at travelsouthyorkshire.com or call Traveline on 01709 515151.
The Transport Executive funds a wide range of non-commercial bus services across South Yorkshire, which without financial support would not operate. Many of these services provide vital links to jobs and key facilities and are part of the Transport Executive's commitment to ensure all areas of the county are served by a good bus network.
