Almost all the new English National Concessions passes that had been requested before 1 April by senior citizens and mobility impaired people in South Yorkshire have now been processed and posted. The final batch should be delivered to people in the next few days. There remain a number of applications containing data errors which are currently being dealt with.
South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) wrote to 225,000 people over the age of 60, or mobility impaired, inviting them to apply for a new National Concessions travel pass which will give them free off-peak bus travel throughout England.
It had nearly 200,000 replies and the new passes have been issued over the past few weeks.
David Brown, Director General of SYPTE, said: “This has been a major task for us, but I am pleased to say that virtually all the passes applied for before 1 April have now been dealt with. This means that thousands of people across South Yorkshire will now be able to benefit from the new scheme.”
Holders of the new pass can travel free on bus services anywhere in England from 0930 Monday to Friday; and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. In addition, residents of South Yorkshire are entitled to free travel from 0900 on buses, trams and trains. Mobility impaired people are entitled to free travel all day.
