Public transport staff in South Yorkshire have been given a taste of fame by starring in a recruitment DVD, designed especially to promote the transport industry.

The film, which aims to promote the vast range of opportunities that exist within the public transport sector, will be used as part of a Transport Recruitment Roadshow which will tour Information Centres, Interchanges, shopping centres, colleges and universities.

The first stop will be the Travel Information Centre, Exchange Street, Sheffield, where it will be every Thursday in September, from 09:00 – 17:00 Monday to Saturday.

Every Thursday public transport Ambassadors will man the Roadshow to talk about their job, the highlights of their role and challenges they face on a daily basis.

Dawn Kennedy, from the Transport Executive who organised the filming said: “The idea of the DVD is to show that there are lots of opportunities within the industry for example accounting, marketing, planning, working in schools, building and working in Interchanges, administration work, conducting, as well as driving buses, trains and trams.

“We also wanted to show how dynamic and exciting the industry is and how two days are never the same.”

The DVD is a joint project between all the partners of Travel South Yorkshire, a new brand which unites the Transport Executive and all transport operators. It has been designed to help make public transport in South Yorkshire easier to understand and use.

Dawn added: “If you are leaving school, college or university this year or are unemployed or even fancy a change in career then give your life some direction by popping down to Sheffield Information Centre.”
