Hundreds of people across South Yorkshire cashed in their Carbon Quids on Saturday and collected their rewards for making sustainable travel choices.
Over the past two weeks people have been able to earn Carbon Quids by using public transport, walking, cycling or car-sharing. People kept their bus, tram or train tickets or filled in a travel diary to show how they had been walking or cycling.
On Saturday they were able to go to Carbon Cash Ins in Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham where they claimed their rewards – goody bags full of items donated by local businesses and transport operators. In addition they could sign up for a prize draw for big value items such as a bicycle, an annual TravelMaster ticket, gym membership or two first class return train tickets to London. The prizes will be drawn next Monday (1 October) when Roy Wicks, Director General of South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive will draw the winning tickets.
He said today: “The Carbon Quids campaign has been a great success. It has drawn people’s attention to the need to make sustainable travel choices and rewarded them for doing so. It has certainly encouraged more people to think about the journeys they make and consider leaving the car at home.”
