FreeBee Passenger Wins Trip to Las Vegas

X-Factor style Elvis impressions in the Peace Gardens and drinking shots made of strawberries and tuna at Sheffield Interchange were just some of the things FreeBee bus passengers had to do to win a trip to Las Vegas.

The challenges were part of the Hallam FM lucky 7 competition, which was run by the radio station and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) to raise the awareness of the new City Centre bus – FreeBee.

To win the top prize seven contestants had to travel around the city centre onboard Freebee taking part in a series of challenges at the bus stops enroute.

The knock-out style activities included Play Your Cards Right, Roll the Dice, Lucky Dip, X- Factor style Elvis impressions and drinking strange combinations of shots such as ‘blue cheese and pineapple juice’ and ‘donuts and custard’.

The top prize was won by 45-year-old Ray Davies from Chapeltown, Sheffield.

Speaking after the competition Ray said: "I still cannot believe that I have won, it is like a dream come true and I didn’t think for one minute that I would. Although slightly embarrassing the challenges were great fun and it has all been worth it. I have loved every minute and I cannot wait to go to Las Vegas."

The FreeBee bus service was launched on Monday (29 October) and runs around the city centre, every seven minutes.

The free bus service transports people around the city and is ideal for visitors, shoppers and commuters in the city. It is funded by SYPTE, part of the Travel South Yorkshire Partnership.

Buses travel to and from Sheffield Interchange via Flat Street, Castle Street (for the markets), Arundel Gate, Norfolk Street, Pinstone Street (for the Town Hall/Fargate), Furnival Gate, Charter Row, Moorfoot, Eyre Street, Furnival Street, Paternoster Row (for Sheffield Station) and back to the interchange.

Buses run from 0700 to 1900 on weekdays and from 0800 to 1900 on Saturdays.

Today (Wednesday 14 November) a team of Travel Advisors will be out on FreeBee giving away free shopping bags and FreeBee related goodies to passengers.
