Extra 150 Spaces for Middlewood Park & Ride Site

More travellers will be able to park and ride at Middlewood from Monday (29 October) when 150 additional spaces open for the first time.

The extension work has been carried out by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) to meet the demands of passengers already using the site and also encourage more people to park and ride into the city centre. This will bring the total number of parking spaces at Middlewood to 350.

This development has been part-financed by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund delivered through the South Yorkshire Objective 1 Programme.

Roy Wicks, Director General of SYPTE said: “Our aim is to encourage more people out of their cars and onto public transport and it is only by providing high quality facilities such as Middlewood Park & Ride that we can achieve this.

“Why drive and have the hassle of traffic jams and parking charges, when you can park and ride into the city centre?  It takes the stress out of your journey and better still, you know that where your car is being parked is a safe and secure environment.”

Middlewood Park & Ride site is perfectly located for drivers approaching Sheffield from the west and the north west and it gives passengers a hassle free journey into the city centre through Hillsborough and Shalesmoor.

It is staffed by Customer Service Officers between 0630 and 1930 and monitored 24 hours a day by CCTV cameras.  It has a barrier controlled entrance and has been awarded Park Safe standard.

As well as being linked by trams, Middlewood Park & Ride site is also served by the SupertramLink bus service, which provides a direct connection from Stocksbridge, Deepcar, Wharncliffe Side and Oughtibridge.

The bus service runs every 10 minutes, Monday to Saturday and customers can use integrated tickets on both the bus and the tram.

There are five Park & Ride sites in Sheffield, which provide more than 1,180 parking spaces between them. Halfway, Middlewood Road, Nunnery and Malin Bridge are linked to tram stops and Meadowhall Interchange Park & Ride is linked to buses, trams and trains.
