Barnsley Dial-a-Ride Bus Service – A Community Lifeline

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) would like to remind people living in High Hoyland, Kexbrough, Darton and Mapplewell, about a door to door bus service that runs every Friday.

The High Hoyland Dial-a-Ride service will pick people up from their homes and take them to key health and shopping facilities.  It is open to anyone who finds it difficult to use public transport, or those without access to a private vehicle.

The service is available to residents of High Hoyland, Kexbrough, Darton and Mapplewell and can be booked for travel between any of these areas (including Darton Surgery, Mapplewell Health Centre, Long Croft Health Centre) and Barnsley town centre.

It has been introduced following contact with local Councillors and the local Member of Parliament, to provide a safe and accessible bus service for residents of these areas.

Pam Horner, External Relations Manager at SYPTE said: “It is a great service and just one example of how SYPTE is committed to improving accessibility for people in Barnsley and developing South Yorkshire’s public transport network.  We hope that people will take advantage of this service and use it to access vital services such as doctor surgeries, shops and the hospital.”

Offering door to door travel, any journey can be accommodated between High Hoyland and Barnsley, every Friday. The service operates between 09:00 and 14:40 for just £1 per single journey.

To use the service passengers should call Barnsley Dial-a-Ride on 01226 298675 to secure their place on the bus.  Bookings can be made anytime between 09:00 and 13:00 (no later than 10:00 on the day they wish to travel).
