‘YourNextBus Service is Rolled Out on More Bus Routes in South Yorkshire

YourNextBus – an interactive service providing timetable information direct to your mobile phone - is being rolled out on a further 21 services across South Yorkshire this Friday (22 September).

These services include:
Sheffield - 30, 41, 51, 52, 60, 120
Rotherham - 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, 41, 42, 43, 43A
Doncaster - 55, 55B, 57, 59, X78

The YourNextBus service, uses sophisticated satellite technology to track each bus journey. It knows exactly where the bus is on its route every minute of the day, and can tell passengers when it’s due at their stop.

The new technology service was first launched on 11 bus routes in Sheffield and Doncaster back in July and is already proving to be a great success.

Passenger Services Director David Brown at the Transport Executive said: “With this excellent service you can now wait for the bus wherever you want to. If you want to have a coffee with friends, spend more time at the gym, or even enjoy five more minutes in the bath – you can, that's because YourNextBus sends a message direct to your mobile, letting you know how many minutes away your next bus actually is.

“It is extremely easy to use and it is a great way of finding out when your bus will actually turn up rather than waiting around at bus stops.”

To use the service, passengers simply have to text their bus stop number and text it to 64422. They will then receive a text message reply giving them details of the next four buses calling at their stop, informing them how many minutes until each arrival and indicating whether the bus is a low-floor easy access vehicle.

All of South Yorkshire’s 8,000 bus stops have individual 8-digit numbers starting with the code 370.

Passengers can also use the service via the Internet or through WAP and by 2007 it is hoped that all of the local bus network will have this service available.
