New Barnsley bus service to improve access to employment

17 August 2017

A NEW BUS service in Barnsley will launch next month (2 September) to help employees at Tankersley and Wentworth Business Park get to work, following a successful bid for over half a million pound of Government funding.

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) has secured the funding from the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Sustainable Travel Access Fund, on behalf of the Barnsley Bus Partnership, to fund a service to the area for the next three years.

Stagecoach Yorkshire services 67/67a (Barnsley – Hoyland – Cortonwood - Wombwell) will be revised to additionally serve Tankersley and Wentworth Business Park, running seven days a week.

Following research and feedback from local employers and their staff, the timetable has been designed to improve access to employment by ensuring that workers are able to catch the bus and arrive in time for their shift, as well as being able to catch the bus home after their shift.

A Barnsley Bus Partnership spokesperson, said: “We’re delighted to launch this improved bus service from Barnsley Interchange to Tankersley and Wentworth Business Park.

“The Barnsley Bus Partnership is committed to providing services that best meet the needs of the local community, and this funding will allow us to improve access to employment for both existing and new customers, by making it even easier to travel to and from this popular location.”

Changes to some other bus services in Barnsley will also take place at the same time. Passengers are being advised to check as soon as possible to see if their service has been affected.
