Residents reminded to have their say on Barnsley's bus services

06 July 2016

TRANSPORT CHIEFS are reminding passengers to have their say on proposals for Barnsley’s bus network, by participating in a public consultation which runs until Sunday 31 July.

Barnsley Bus Partnership is seeking views on plans that aim to optimise key routes into the town centre and provide a better coordinated, more efficient and integrated bus network that meets the needs of people living in, working in, and visiting the town.

The call comes as the fourth annual Catch the Bus Week gets underway (4 - 8 July), a nationwide campaign to promote the benefits of bus travel.

People can take part in the consultation and find information about the proposals online at travelsouthyorkshire.com/bbp and via paper feedback forms and route maps from customer service desks at Interchanges. Posters are also displayed on all of Barnsley’s Stagecoach buses.

Drop-in sessions with members of Barnsley Bus Partnership will be held at Wombwell Library on 5 July at 2–5pm, Penistone Library on 7 July at 3-6pm, Barnsley Interchange on 11 July at 3-6pm, Goldthorpe Library on 14 July at 3-6pm, Barnsley Interchange on 19 July at 3-6pm and The Darton Centre (Huddersfield Road) on 27 July at 2-5pm.

An additional drop-in session has also been arranged at Penistone Library on 21 July at 9am-12pm, following customer requests.

Feedback will be used to inform bus service changes, which are expected to be implemented in January 2017.

The proposals form part of the aims drawn in Sheffield City Region’s Devolution Deal to improve public transport in our region.

Barnsley Bus Partnership brings together local bus operators Stagecoach Yorkshire, Arriva, TM Travel, Globe Coaches, Waterson Coaches with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC) and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE).
