BARNSLEY cyclists can now benefit from bike hire, servicing and secure indoor parking, following the official opening of a new Cycle HUB by the Mayor.
The Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Brain Mathers, alongside members of the public, were given a tour of the Cycle HUB in Barnsley Interchange and the chance to register for a secure bike parking fob at the special launch event.
Funded by the Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF), Barnsley Cycle HUB offers a range of cycle support services to residents and businesses and aims to remove barriers that prevent people from getting into cycling.
Users of the HUB can take advantage of:
• Free secure indoor parking for up to 30 bikes*
• Free toilet and shower facilities *
• Bike servicing and repairs
• Free Dr Bike check-ups
• Loan a bike*
• Bike maintenance workshops
• Unwanted bike recycling depot
• Recycled bike sales
For a limited time, new registrants will also be able to collect a free ‘starter pack’ including a high-vis vest, seat cover, rucksack cover and a repair kit.
The Mayor, Cllr Brian Mathers, said: “I’m very impressed with the facilities available at the Barnsley Cycle HUB. It is so important to have a service like this in the town that helps people to get all the support they need to get on their bikes and to stay on them, leading to healthier, happier and more active lives.”
HUB Manager, Adam Simmonite, added: “Since the official opening we have seen a brilliant response from the residents of Barnsley. January is the time people want to get more active and change their lifestyles, and the Barnsley Cycle HUB has launched at the perfect time to go from strength to strength.”
The HUB’s winter opening hours (until March 2016) are 7.30am-3.30pm Monday-Friday. Secure indoor parking is open Monday-Saturday 6am-10pm and Sundays 10.00am-5.30pm.
