Public Transport Consultation Lets You Have Your Say

02 September 2015

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) is offering people the chance to have their say on the county’s public transport services.

The ‘Have Your Say’ consultation will take place between Friday 4 September and Sunday 4 October and will seek passenger opinion on how concessionary travel, supported bus services and travel information could be provided in the future.

People can take part online at sypte.co.uk/haveyoursay or via paper copy, available from customer service desks at Interchanges. A supporting booklet will also be available online and at Interchanges to provide more information about the consultation.

Have Your Say consultation roadshows will take place at:

 Sheffield Interchange on 16 September 2015 at 3pm – 5.30pm
 Arundel Gate Mini Interchange on 18 September 2015 at 8am – 10.30am
 Barnsley Interchange on 21 September 2015 at 8am – 10.30am
 Rotherham Interchange on 24 September 2015 at 3pm – 5.30pm
 Doncaster Interchange on 25 September 2015 at 8am – 10.30am
 Meadowhall Interchange on 29 September 2015 at 3pm – 5.30pm
 Dinnington Mini Interchange on 1 October 2015 at 8am – 10.30am
 Hillsborough Mini Interchange on 2 October 2015 at 8am – 10.30am

Over the last 5 years, savings made by the SYPTE have seen the workforce reduced by 48% and the budget cut by 35%.

By giving the community of South Yorkshire the chance to offer their views on public transport services, SYPTE can make sure that the organisation is spending money in the correct places and that any changes that may need to be made are right for customers. The findings of the consultation will inform SYPTE's policy setting and budget decision making for 2016/17.

SYPTE Interim Director General, David Young, said: “We’re running the Have Your Say consultation to allow us to understand in more detail what it is that the community of South Yorkshire require from the key aspects of their public transport services, which are funded by the tax payer. The current financial climate means that SYPTE needs to look carefully at ways of making savings should this be needed. Gaining the public’s feedback will help us to plan how we can do this and continue to deliver efficient services centred around customer needs in the future.”
