The Citywide Child - Day ticket is available for use on any bus or tram in Sheffield, and is very much supported by Sheffield Bus Partnership, which has been keen to introduce period tickets for young people. Sheffield Bus Partnership, is made up of First South Yorkshire, Stagecoach in Sheffield, Sheffield Community Transport, Sheffield City Council and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE).

Since it was launched in October 2012, the ground breaking voluntary partnership has seen a more simple, flexible and convenient bus network for Sheffield. It has also reduced congestion and duplication on key routes, significantly improved punctuality and customer satisfaction, and reduced fares.

SYPTE Deputy Interim Director General, David Young, said: “The TravelMaster Citywide Child - Day ticket is fantastic value at just £2 a day for unlimited bus and tram travel in Sheffield, and we welcome the Youth Parliament’s support in promoting the product.

“We are delighted to be able to trial this in Sheffield and help children and young people make the most of the summer and the city, and all the great things it has to offer by using public transport. If successful, we will look to work with our partners, including  TravelMaster  to consider introducing similar initiatives across other districts.

“By supporting this ticket on a trial basis the Sheffield Bus Partnership continues to demonstrate its commitment to understanding and responding to customer needs.”

TravelMaster Chairman, Duncan Roberts, said: “Young people are the adult passengers of tomorrow and it is important that public transport remains affordable to them. I very much hope that this experimental TravelMaster product encourages enough additional travel to prove it could be sustainable in the future.”

Richard Soper, Strategic Director for First Bus said: "The Sheffield Bus Partnership has already shown success in growing passenger numbers on buses in the city. This is another customer orientated initiative that will help to increase the number of people using public transport in the city."

Councillor Leigh Bramall, Cabinet member for Business, Skills and Development, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to negotiate with partners from the Bus Partnership Agreement to deliver cheaper fares for young people over the summer period.  I very much hope the scheme will prove successful and can form the basis for further discussions to deliver cheaper fares for young people on a permanent basis, particularly as young people often rely on public transport to get out and about.”
