Consultation and Market Research

What is Consultation?

Consultation forms an integral part of informing the development and delivery of the services provided by us and the services provided in partnership with us by the operating companies and district councils.

Consultation occurs at a number of levels ranging from small scale community focused consultation, through Area Forum consultation to county-wide strategic stakeholder consultation.

We have adopted the consultation principles and best practice set out by the LTP, the Audit Commission and national and local best practice guidance.  We are members of PTEG and share knowledge, learning and good practice with other PTEs and partner organisations.

If you have any enquiries regarding consultation please contact us through this website.

You can also visit our Useful Links section.

Current consultation projects

We have recently undertaken a review and a refresh of existing South Yorkshire strategies, these are;

  1. Rail Strategy (PDF, 1988Kb)
  2. Tram Strategy (PDF, 2106Kb)

Both strategies aim to take a deliverable yet challenging approach to the future development of the region’s rail and tram network.

SYPTE would welcome your feedback on the both documents. Please email any comments to pam.horner@sypte.co.uk.

You may wish to consider the following questions;

  • Do the strategies deal with existing issue?
  • Do the strategies deal with known future issues?
  • Do the strategies prioritise the right projects?
  • Do you agree with the proposed improvements to facilities?
  • Is anything missing from either strategies?

Market Research

The Transport Executive undertakes market research regularly regarding the public transport network and its products, services and information.

The most recent market research project was the passenger transport satisfaction survey. The aim of the survey is to regularly monitor people's satisfaction with all elements of public transport provision within South Yorkshire and use the findings to continually improve and revise this provision.

The survey is carried out every quarter throughout the year, when a random sample of residents in the county are contacted for their views.  In order to generate a good response respondents can choose to be entered into a prize draw to win either a first prize of £100 or one of 40 £10 high street vouchers.

Passenger Transport Satisfaction Survey September 2008 prize draw results:

The winner of the first prize of £100 lives in the S61 area of Rotherham.

The £10 voucher winners: 6 from Barnsley, 11 from Doncaster, 13 from Rotherham and 10 from Sheffield.
